Interim Tits

24th October 2016
This is an unashamedly interim blog as I try and find time to update the website in a more appropriately thorough manner. Therefore, here are some random snaps of a Siberian Tit in the snow. They are a perky little bird and always on the go - I suppose to keep their metabolism going in nippy weather, and not easy to snap.

Its fun to stretch technical snapping abilities so I tried to get him to sit full in the snow, so I could expose for the white background, so it was an exercise in how many stops ‘plus’ do you give it.

By the end of the second session with Trevor (for that was his name…..) we had a working relationship and a few acceptable snaps were obtained and Trevor was replete with sunflower seeds.

Trevor and his Tit chums are fed throughout the year at this spot in Finland so it is not a food source which is going to be taken away in such a borderline harsh environment. The birds come first….. as they always should.

Although there aren’t Siberian Tits in England, there are Willow Tits and some of these were in the same area. To me they looked brighter than the UK versions. Obviously they are fluffier as they need an insulating air layer to stay warm, but I don’t think the brighter colours were solely a reflection from the snow.

Of course, I should have been concentrating on Pine Grosbeak’s, so here is a female posing nicely just to show willing - but Trevor was more of a challenge.

OK, I am sluggishly progressing through the ducks from this trip, so a future blog will see you with a complete fix. Don’t panic…… ok, just one duck.
